Testing on chimpanzees at an Acadiana research center could come to a halt if a new bill makes its way through Congress. The bill would phase out over three years invasive research on chimps and other primates. The UL Lafayette New Iberia Research Center does research on chimps. Officials say if the bill passes, scientific breakthroughs would be put on hold. A House subcommittee has yet to take action on the bill.
