GRETNA, La. (AP) — A Kenner man will spend 10 years behind bars for choking his wife and firing a shotgun at her after an argument over dinner plans.

Multiple media outlets report 66-year-old Charles Gussett pleaded guilty Monday to illegal use of a weapon, using a firearm during a crime of violence and domestic abuse battery.

Prosecutors say the October 2013 argument began when Gussett asked his wife what was for dinner. When she told him that she didn't have any dinner plans, prosecutors say Gussett grabbed her by the neck.

The woman broke free, and Gussett got a shotgun and tried to shoot her but the weapon didn't fire. He fired at her again outside, striking a vehicle and a neighbor's house.
