BOGALUSA, La. (AP) — The first Bogalusa Blues and Heritage Festival will kick off with a tribute to Professor Longhair — a blues singer and pianist who was born in Bogalusa as Henry Roeland Byrd.

The Daily News (http://bit.ly/OkJL9h) reports that New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival founder Quint Davis is among guests who will speak about "Fess," who died in 1980.

Performers will include Tab Benoit, Luther Kent, Kenny Neal and Carolyn Wonderland.

Online ticket sales have begun on the event's website, bogalusablues.com. The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., Children 12 years old and under get in free.

The festival will be Sept. 29 at Bogalusa's Cassidy Park.
