This is the tenth year that the Krewe of Rio will be celebrating Mardi Gras. Their parade will roll at 6:30 Saturday night, starting in downtown Lafayette.

This year, the Krewe of Rio and Project Front Yard are teaming up for an environmentally-conscious parade.

While parades are fun, but the debris left behind is not.

This year Project Front Yard will be manning the last truck and trailer in this Saturday night's parade. You can hand them over any beads and even trash that you don't want. There will be 20 plus volunteers there to pick up trash.

Art Price, Krewe of Carnival en Rio President says,

"The Krewe of Carnival en Rio are proud members of this incredible community, and we are thrilled to partner with a program like Project Front Yard to maintain the beauty of our neighborhoods and streets after we shower the City in Mardi Gras throws. Our parade is one night, but we are all members of this community year-round and Project Front Yard is a positive challenge we will take to heart during the Mardi Gras season and beyond."

City Parish President Joey Durel says this addition to the parade is great. He adds,

"I am excited to see Lafayette's sense of pride taken to a new level. We've always delighted in showing the region, the state, the nation and even the world how we 'Laissez les bon temps rouler!' Now we are also showcasing that we value a beautiful, clean and fun community that is welcoming to both the eye and sense of adventure."

Project Front Yard is an effort by Lafayette Government to work on litter-free streets and waterways to make Lafayette look even better.
