There will a public mass in New Orleans today for artist George Rodrigue.  He died on Saturday at the age of 69 after battling cancer.

The mass is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. at St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans.  On Friday, a graveside service and burial is scheduled for one o’clock in the afternoon at Holy Family Cemetery in New Iberia.

Rodrigue began painting scenes of Cajun life in the 1960′s, and he is well known for his “Blue Dog” collection of paintings.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for memorial donations be mailed to the George Rodrigue Foundation of the Arts in the New Orleans or at www.RodrigueFoundation.org.
