RACELAND, La. (AP) — Lafourche Parish officials say the repair of two pumping stations in the Raceland area will help protect against flooding.

The parish will be rebuilding the Cyprien Pump Station, which services the low-lying area south of La. Highway 1 and west of Highway 182. Work will also be done on the Crest Pump Station on Crest Road. That station serves the area bounded by U.S. Highway 90 and state highways 182 and 652.

According to the Courier, the combined cost of the two projects is $146,758.

Low-lying sections of Raceland have experienced severe flooding in the past during prolonged periods of rain.

More than 100 homes in the Alidore community in Raceland were damaged in December 2009 when more than 10 inches fell over two days.
