ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) — Voters will decide in Tuesday whether to invest millions to renovate and upgrade the Rapides Parish Coliseum.

The Police Jury voted in June to put an election on the Nov. 6 ballot for a $23 million bond issue to renovate the nearly half-century-old coliseum and a 1-mill property tax to fund its operations for 20 years.

Included in the plans for the arena if the tax passes are adding about 1,500 seats, bringing capacity to the 9,000 range; replacing seating; replacing the scoreboard; adding a larger stage; upgrading the lighting, sound and electrical systems; redoing the facade and exterior look of the building; and adding new restrooms.

The Town Talk reports major improvements are also planned for the adjacent Exhibition Hall, agriculture facilities and parking areas.
