ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) — The Rapides Parish School Board has named an interim superintendent for the school district.

At a special meeting Monday night, The Town Talk reports the board voted 5-4 to hire Gerald Woodard, a former superintendent of Grant Parish School District.

Woodard retired in June 2000 after 36 years of experience in Grant and Rapides parishes.

Also nominated was Eddie Mae Washington, assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction for Rapides.

She is sharing the day-to-day duties of the district with Bill Morrison, assistant superintendent of administration, after former superintendent Gary Jones left his post in late August.
