ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) — Rapides Parish students will have a choice of schools this year if they attend a low-performing school.

The Town Talk reports (http://townta.lk/NwloZR ) the Rapides Parish School Board approved a school choice plan at a special meeting Tuesday.

Students from kindergarten through fifth grade at low-performing schools will have the choice to attend Carter C. Raymond Elementary School in Lecompte or Martin Park Elementary School in Alexandria.

Sixth-graders can choose to attend Carter C. Raymond or Alexandria Middle Magnet schools. Seventh- and eighth-graders can choose between Tioga Junior High or Alexandria Middle Magnet schools. High school students can attend Bolton High or Alexandria Senior High schools.

This is the second year for the parish to participate in a school choice plan.
