MONROE, La. (AP) — A Rayville man is in custody on a charge of negligent homicide after a reported accidental shooting of his cousin.

The Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office says 34-year-old Bryant Silk is being held on $25,000 bond following the Wednesday death of his cousin in Sterlington. The victim's name was not released.

The News-Star reports Silk reported the shooting. Authorities say Silk, his cousin and an unidentified woman were drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana when deputies say Silk began pointing a handgun at the victim in a joking manner. Silk says the victim responded by joking with him with a knife. He says his gun discharged by accident and the bullet hit the victim in the head.

It was unknown if Silk has an attorney who could speak on his behalf.
