Recall Petition Filed Against Rapides Board Member

ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) — A recall petition has been filed against Rapides Parish School Board member Julie McConathy.

A spokesman with the Louisiana Secretary of State's Office tells The Town Talk (http://townta.lk/Mban9F ) the petition was hand-delivered and filed on Wednesday. McConathy is a first-term board member from District C.

The newspaper reports McConathy was not at a scheduled meeting Thursday of the advisory committee charged with shaping the search for a new district superintendent. A phone message to her home was not returned.

McConathy was elected in November 2010 with approximately 60 percent of the vote.

In May, McConathy was one of five board members who voted not to renew the contract of Superintendent Gary L. Jones. The measure passed by a 5-4 vote.
