The Louisiana Red Snapper season has been announced along with a bonus for anglers. The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries has announced the 2016 season for red snapper will begin at 6:00 am on Friday, January 8th and remain open until further notice. The possession limit will be two fish per person per day with a 16 inch minimum total length. In addition to the season announcement the 2016 Consolidated Appropriations Act temporarily extends the state waters from three to nine nautical miles for fishery management purposes.

Anglers and charter captains must have a Recreational Offshore Landing Permit for red snapper. Permits can be obtained or renewed free of charge at rolp.wlf.la.gov with a valid fishing license.

Anglers under 16 years of age do not need a permit. Customers on paid charter trips are also not required to have a permit.
