The Lafayette City Parish Council decided last night to defer a decision about rededicating library funds for drainage projects.

With a 26 million dollars surplus in the library fund, Lafayette Mayor President Joel Robideaux suggested that voters decide whether or not they wanted that money rededicated to be used for drainage and other issues.

Councilman Bruce Conque withdrew his amendment to ask for a 10 million dollar rededication instead of the 26 million.

Library Director Teresa Elberson says there is confusion over the issue, stating that the millage's main purpose is to operate the new libraries being built, and a bond issue was approved to build the building.

Because of the confusion, members said they need more time to research the issue. The question off whether or not to re-dedicate funds will now be back on the agenda in April.
