Some changes are coming to the Lafayette Parish Courthouse as there are multiple renovation plans that are in the works over the course of the next two years.

A couple of elevators that are from when the building was built, are scheduled to be given an overhaul with all new parts.

The former parish jail space on the seventh floor will be demolished.  That space was used as the jail when they built the courthouse in 1965.  It stopped being used when the new Lafayette Parish Correctional Center was built in 1984.

Clerk of Court Louis Perret says over the years they used that space for storage, but because it has no climate control, it has not been used for office space.
