Five men and one woman have signed up to challenge Acadiana Congressman Clay Higgins on the November sixth ballot. Lafayette attorney Josh Guillory is the lone Republican challenger. Guillory says Higgins has voted three times to raise our debt.

"He's made no efforts to shrink the size of the federal government," said Guillory. "As our Congressman, I'll fight to do that. It's too big that's not the intent of our fathers."

Higgins, who lives in Port Barre, is seeking a second term as the House Representative for Louisiana’s 3rd Congressional district. Guillory says the biggest difference between himself and Higgins is that he lives in the district.

"We need someone here, who lives in the district that knows what we go through that can go to Washington that will have an effective voice for our citizens here in the 3rd District, we are currently lacking that," said Guillory.
Four Democrats have signed up to challenge Higgins. Rob Anderson, Larry Rader, Verone Thomas and Lafayette attorney Mimi Methvin. Methvin says Higgins and the Trump administration have not followed through on their 2016 campaign promises .
"Enhancing health care, making sure we have money for infrastructure projects, all of the things that were promised, they have not delivered on," said Methvin.
A Libertarian is also on the ballot, Aaron Andrus of Westlake.
Methvin and Guillory are the only two candidates to raise more than $50,000, according to the latest federal campaign reports.
Higgins is a former St. Landry Parish Sheriff's deputy, who produced Crime Stoppers videos that went viral and made him an internet star. He was a surprise winner of the 3rd Congressional district race in 2016.
