With New Orleans Saints running back/special teamer Daniel Lasco undergoing season-ending surgery on a bulging disc injury suffered on Sunday, the team had an open roster spot.

The spot has been filled by former Arkansas running back Jonathan Williams, who the Saints signed today off the Denver Broncos practice squad, according to a report from NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Williams was Second-Team All-SEC in his junior year at Arkansas.

He returned for his senior season after an outstanding year, but suffered a foot injury in the summer and missed his entire regular season senior year.

Drafted by Buffalo in the 5th round of the 2016 draft, he was released before the start of the season.

He spent another offseason in Buffalo this year, but was cut again.

He then signed with the Broncos practice squad, before being signed to the Saints active roster today.

Williams' position coach at Arkansas, Joel Thomas, is now the running backs coach in New Orleans.
