Mack Brown

There are now numerous reports circulating that Mack Brown will soon be stepping down as the head coach of the Texas Longhorns.

Orangebloods.com first reported on Tuesday afternoon that the 62-year old Brown, who has spent the last 16 years at Texas, would be stepping down.

Later, Tuesday night, ESPN reported that Brown will resign by the end of the week, and indicates that a reason for the wait is that Brown's agent, Joe Jamail, is currently involved in a trial.

Brown has accumulated a 244-221-1 record in 30 years as a head coach at Appalachian St., Tulane, North Carolina, and Texas.

With the Longhorns, Brown is 158-47, including 11 bowl wins, as well as a national championship in 2009.

Texas finished the regular season at 8-4 this year, and also finished with a 7-2 conference mark, good enough for a second place-tie with Oklahoma and Oklahoma St. in the Big XII.

The Longhorns will play Oregon in the Valero Alamo Bowl on Monday, December 30.
