The Louisiana Supreme Court has appointed retired judge Mildred Methvin as judge pro tempore of Division D of the 27th Judicial District Court in St. Landry Parish.

That position became vacant after the death of Judge Donald Hebert earlier this month. Methvin will serve in the appointed capacity until Dec. 31, or until further order of the court.

Methvin has held several positions in law and government, including 26 years as a U.S. magistrate judge for the western district of Louisiana.

She retired in 2009.
