Retiring Dem Says ‘The People Have Gotten Dumber’

Gary Ackerman, a Democrat in Congress from New York that announced his retirement in March, has made an interesting statement in an interview with Bloomberg Businessweek.  He said that many things have changed in the 30 years he has served, including making this statement,

"I think the people have gotten dumber."

He admitted that he would not have said that before he announced his retirement, but stands by the statement.

The ultimate question would be, is he right?  What do you think?
