Lafayette, LA - Rick Chargois announced today his endorsement of Mark Garber in the runoff for Lafayette Parish Sheriff. Chargois finished third in primary election voting, held on October 24, with 11% of the vote.

"This race is about the future of Lafayette Parish and it is critically important that we have a sheriff that understands every aspect of law enforcement, has the education to run and manage a multimillion dollar budget and over 800 employees and can utilize his experience to integrate new technology and programs to keep moving our city forward," said Chargois. "We may not agree on every issue, but we certainly agree on the fact that protecting our Parish and our families is the most important part of our sheriff's job. I believe Mark Garber is the man do to that. He will bring a sense of professionalism, courtesy and service to the office. Mark Garber has my support and my endorsement."

Chargois spent 25 years working for the State Police, until he retired in 2004. He has spent the last 11 years working in the private sector.

"I appreciate Rick's decision to support my campaign. He was a great candidate and I thank him for his service to our state and our parish. He was a good law enforcement officer and is a good man. I look forward to his thoughts about the future of the department and value his input about ways we can improve what is already one of the most respected sheriff's offices in Louisiana," said Garber.
