Think of how different the musical landscape might sound if Chuck Berry had not learned to play the guitar Some people say that Berry invented the musical genre called Rock and Roll. If he didn’t invent it, then he sure helped it along the way.

Chuck Berry died today. He was 90 at the time of his passing. How iconic is his music? Well, back in 1977 his music was part of a collection of significant items that were sent out into space. We wouldn’t want aliens thinking we didn’t have good taste in music.

Berry was one of the inaugural inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. His talents have been lauded by many others, most of them also figureheads of rock music. Berry’s compilation album entitled The Great Twenty-Eight was ranked as one of Billboard Magazine’s Top 500 Albums of All Time.

Oddly enough Berry only had one number one record during his entire career. In 1972 that cover tune, yet it was someone else’s song, finally took Berry to the top of the pop charts. I am pretty sure that even if Berry hadn’t hit number one ever his body of work would have certainly stood the test of time and in no way would his influential greatness have been questioned.
