WELSH – This morning, troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop D conducted a safety checkpoint on U.S. Highway 90 near Louisiana Highway 382 about 2 miles east of Welsh.

During the checkpoint, troopers cited 28 motorists for not having proof of insurance and seized their license plate.  Additionally, 2 motorists were cited for driving under suspension, 6 citations were issued for an expired motor vehicle inspection decal, 4 citations were issued for illegal window tint, 1 citation was issued for an expired driver’s license, and 1 citation was issued for an expired license plate.

Motorists are reminded that Louisiana state law requires proof of liability insurance to be carried in their vehicle at all times and to show this proof to any law enforcement officer upon request.  State police conduct safety checkpoints in an effort to generate compliance with state laws and to help ensure that you and your family are safe on Louisiana roadways.
