After finally getting to start in his comfortable middle linebacker position Tampa Bay in week 14, New Orleans Saints Saints linebacker Stephone Anthony won't play another snap this year.

Anthony was officially placed on injured reserve with a knee injury, coach Sean Payton confirmed today.

The 24 year old out of Clemson was disappointing on the field in 2016.

After a solid rookie season that saw him start at middle linebacker and lead the team in tackles, the former first round pick struggled at strong side linebacker.

New Orleans signed veteran James Laurinaitis last offseason, moving him to middle linebacker and pushing Anthony to the strong side. Laurinaitis was disappointing as well, never making a big impact on the field and eventually landing on injured reserve before being waived.

Payton has publicly noted Anthony's struggle with simple reads.

The decision by the Saints to move Anthony backfired, as he never grew comfortable at his new position, starting only 3 games and spending many games on the bench.
