The New Orleans Saints made some moves to get their roster size to the league-mandated 75 players on Tuesday afternoon.

Actually, the Saints did one better, making enough moves before the 3 pm deadline to go from 89 players to 74 players.

The Saints waived 11 players on Tuesday, including receivers R.J. Harris, Jared Dangerfield and Reggie Bell; safety Jamal Golden; tight end RaShaun Allen; fullback Sione Houma; guards Cyril Lemon and Kaleb Eulls; linebacker Dillon Lee; long snapper Chris Highland and cornerback Brandon Dixon.

In addition, two vested veterans were also released, in defensive tackle C.J. Wilson and defensive end Matt Shaughnessy.

The team made some moves on the injury front as well, waiving injured defensive back Jimmy Pruitt, giving linebacker Tony Steward an injury waiver, and then placing offensive lineman Avery Young on the reserve non-football injury list, while placing defensive end Hau'oli Kikaha on the reserve PUP list.

Those 17 moves got the Saints down to 72 players, excluding the additions of defensive end Chris McCain, who they acquired in a trade with the Miami Dolphins, and offensive line Khalif Barnes, who they signed as a free agent, which gets the present roster to 74.

With an open roster spot, the Saints could still add a player between now and 3 pm on Saturday, when they have to set their 53-man roster for the season opener.
