GONZALES, La. (AP) — The Ascension Parish Council's fiscal affairs committee has backed sales tax rebates worth an estimated $3.77 million for two unnamed industrial projects that are considering the parish as an operating site.

The Advocate reports (http://bit.ly/NlheSo ) the projects, code-named Happy Corn and Oriole, represent a total capital investment of $1.71 billion.

Summaries of the deals provided to council members say the projects would create 280 full-time jobs if the companies select Ascension.
