The official start of hurricane season is June the 1st, and the state of Louisiana is going to help citizens get ready while saving a little bit of money.  The annual sales tax holiday for hurricane preparedness will be held May 26th and 27th.

The purpose of the tax holiday is to help Louisiana's citizens stock up on things you might need during the time of hurricane.  Often stores will also hold special sales during that weekend to lure customers into the stores.

On Saturday May 26th and Sunday May 27th Louisiana residents will not have to pay the four percent state sales tax on a list of items like the following:

  • weather radios
  • batteries and chargers
  • gas or diesel fuel tanks
  • flashlights
  • candles
  • waterproof sheeting

These are just some of the many things that will be given a tax discount during those two days.  According to the Louisiana Department of Revenue, the first fifteen hundred dollars of the purchase price will be eligible for the discount.  Local sales taxes, and all other tax will apply.
