A Lafayette Parish School Board member is questioning a recent vote by its members on who can elect outgoing Superintendent Burnell Lemoine's replacement.

On August 17, the board voted 5-3 to include two residents in the interview and selection process for a new superintendent. Board member Greg Awbrey has requested a legal opinion to see if it's lawful to allow non-board members to serve on a full board committee for the selection process. Awbrey's request will be discussed during tonight's board meeting. The application period for the job closes Sept. 12. The board plans to choose a new superintendent by Dec. 7. Lemoine's contract ends Dec. 31.
