ST. FRANCISVILLE, La. (AP) — Even though the new West Feliciana Parish home-rule charter affects parish government, Assistant District Attorney Michael Hughes tells the school board it could have an impact on its redistricting cost.

Among other changes, the charter will replace the seven-member police jury with a parish president and a five-member council.

The charter requires that when the police jurors' terms end in fall 2015, the parish must be redistricted into four new districts.

The school board has seven districts.

Hughes says the police jury and the school board could share the cost of the redistricting.

Complicating the issue is a state law prohibiting council or police jury districts from splitting school board precincts.
