Jefferson Davis Parish School Superintendent David Clayton is seeking a one-year contract extension.

Clayton told board members Thursday that he plans to ask for a November board vote on an extension from July 1, 2012, to June 30, 2013.

Clayton said he wanted to inform the board of his intentions now to give them a month to consider the request.

Clayton has been the superintendent for three years.

As superintendent, he oversees all operations of the school district, including nearly 6,000 students and more than 800 employees and a budget of $48 million.
