A 22-year-old Scott woman is facing charges of vehicular murder after a two vehicle crash took the life of longtime SLEMCO board member Jerry Meaux.

State Police Troop I spokesperson Stephen Hammons said Blaire Duhon of Scott was driving her truck west on Hwy. 342. At the same time, 74-year-old Meaux was driving on the same highway but from the opposite direction. As both drivers approached a curve, Hammons said Duhon crossed the center line and crashed head-on into Meaux's truck.

Meaux was wearing a seat belt, and he was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lafayette Parish coroner. Duhon was determined to be drunk, Hammons said, and she was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on charges of DWI, vehicular homicide, driving left of center, and littering.

A statement from SLEMCO CEO and General Manager J.U. Gajan "[acknowledged] the death of our long-time board member, Jerry Meaux. He faithfully served the SLEMCO membership for 32 years as a board member and 22 of those years as our board president. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this very difficult time."
