The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office is searching for a Deridder man who drowned at Niblett's Bluff State Park near Vinton yesterday.

According to our news partner KATC, the Sheriff's Office responded to an apparent drowning at approximately 7 p.m.

Witnesses told authorities 28-year-old Shannon Godfrey was playing kickball with family members when he jumped in the water of the Old River to retrieve the ball. After he went under, witnesses said, he never resurfaced.

The CPSO Marine Division arrived and began seaching for Godfrey by diving and using sonar equipment.

Authorities are continuing the search today.
