Second Suspect Booked In Clinton Slaying

CLINTON, La. (AP) — Clinton police have arrested a second suspect in the shooting death of a man last week.

Police Chief Eddie Stewart tells The Advocate 25-year-old Cordero L. Morgan surrendered Tuesday night to officers in Baton Rouge after an intensive manhunt by Baton Rouge police and state police detectives.

Clinton police obtained an arrest warrant Tuesday accusing Morgan of first-degree murder in the Aug. 8 slaying of 42-year-old Isaac Simmons during what Stewart said was a drug deal that turned into a robbery attempt and shooting.

Less than 24 hours after the shooting, police in Baton Rouge arrested 26-year-old Jerald Matthews.

Matthews was booked Monday with first-degree murder.
