United States Senator John Kennedy talks with 101.7 / 710 KEEL's Robert J Wright and Erin McCarty about President Donald trump's recent declaration of emergency at the southern border, the expected legal challenges from Democrats and funding for the wall in the recently passed legislation.

Kennedy tells KEEL listeners that "there were two major issues with the bill. One was the funding for the border wall, the other was the number of detention beds."

The Senator explains that, while the "funding for the wall was not what we wanted...we got $1.375 billion, when you add to that the $600 million already on hand, it's about $2 billion spread over the next seven months. It's not $5.7 billion, but it's not chopped liver either."

Kennedy adds that, in attempting to block Trump's emergency order, "The Democrats have filed for an injunction. They may or may not get it. But the President has the authority...to move around another two to two and a half billion dollars. So, that's about $4 billion and that's a pretty good down payment."
