Legislation that would benefit the families of the two insurance fraud agents that were killed while performing their job last week in Ville Platte has passed in the Louisiana Senate. The legislation passed 39-0 to provide a $250,000 benefit to the spouses of insurance fraud investigators Kim Sledge and Rhett Jeansonne. Livingston Senator Dale Erdey, who is also an insurance agent, says there has been no type of legislation in the past that would provide such benefits for state employees. Ville Platte Senator Eric LaFleur says this bill covers those who go out and investigate matters that are not necessarily criminal, but are in environments that could become hostile. The legislation now heads to the House floor.
