Today on 'Mornings With Ken & Bernie' State Senator Karen Carter Peterson voiced her displeasure with Governor Bobby Jindal's veto of her bill SB-577.  Her bill would have created the Louisiana Equal Pay Task Force to study the reasons why Louisiana has such a wide disparity between the pay of men and women doing the same job.

According to Peterson the bill would not obligate the state to take action on the pay disparity at this time but would only determine the extent of the disparity.  Peterson said,

"Women earn 67 percent of what men earn for the same job in Louisiana and specifically in Baton Rouge, the Governor's home town,  women earn 38 percent of what men earn for the worst pay gap in the nation."

When we asked Senator Peterson if the Governor had given her a reason for his veto she told us that Jindal's staff said it was a cost issue as no funds had been appropriated for the study.
