A coastal restoration bill cleares one hurdle. In a bipartisan vote, the RESTORE Act passed the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee. Senators David Vitter and Mary Landrieu both introduced the bill along with other sponsors. Senator David Vitter says passage went according to plan. The bill is designed to mandate that at least 80% of the fines collected from BP under the Clean Water Act are sent to the Gulf Coast states that were affected by the spill.
