Lafayette Police held on Operating While Intoxicated checkpoint this passed Saturday night in the 1300 block of Bertrand Drive.  Corporal Paul Mouton, through a press release, says five hundred and forty-three vehicles passed through the checkpoint.  Fifteen drivers were stopped for secondary testing, and four drivers were arrested and charged with OWI.  The individuals are as follows:

  • 1.     Andrew B. Chopin (23) – OWI
  • 2.     Jonathan G. Simon (34) – OWI
  • 3.     Wilmar O. Ramirez (28) – OWI
  • 4.     Jonathan L. Dupuis (22) – OWI

Officers were also busy with other arrests that night at the checkpoint.  Four other people were arrested and eight individuals were issued various citations.  The four people arrested and their charges are as follows:

  • 1.     Carlos Orlando (27) – Driving Without Lawful Presence in the United States
  • 2.     Benjamin B. Thomas (19) – Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana and Paraphernalia
  • 3.     Jermaine A. Jones (17) – Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana and Paraphernalia
  • 4.     Quentis K. Brown II (25) – Possession of Marijuana

As always, the purpose of the checkpoint was to target impaired drivers.  Officers say they are always looking for anyone impaired by alcohol or any other dangerous substance.
