Several Acadiana Outreach Center employees have been laid off and services to the homeless and needy have been severely curtailed in a shake-up at one of the Lafayette area's largest private nonprofit agencies.

While board members and remaining staff wouldn't discuss the details, some of the workers let go and one former client says they were told the problem is a financial one. It's been reported the center's board of directors had fired chief executive Rick Newton and closed its Three Graces drug and mental health treatment center in Abbeville.
