Shaquille O'Neal has long been known for community involvement. The former NBA star played collegiately just 55 miles down the road at LSU. Did you know, he's been an active member of the law enforcement community for a number of years? Shaq was sworn in as a deputy Lafayette City Marshall on Friday. The Advertiser reports he drove all the way from Miami to attend the ceremony. O'Neal had previously been deputized under long time city marshall Earl Picard. He needed to be sworn in again with new marshall Brian Pope taking office. Pope told the Advertiser, "We love him. He's always been a good friend."
