A wildlife area closed due to the high water levels this year in the Atchafalaya basin is reopening.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says the Sherburne Wildlife Management Area will open August 1. The wildlife area will be opened to public shooting ranges that include the rifle, handgun, archery and shotgun ranges. The nearby Atchafalaya National Wildlife Refuge remains closed due to the flooding caused by opening the Morganza floodway to lower water levels in the Mississippi River
