BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Authorities say a 10-year-old boy fought with a man accused of raping his mother, and the suspect eventually stopped the attack after being hit by the boy.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office says 32-year-old Daniel Hinton, who is described as homeless, was arrested Monday on a second-degree rape charge.

The Advocate reports that the woman told detectives Hinton had been at her house with some of her cousins Friday night. A sheriff's report states that she woke up to find Hinton assaulting her.

The report says her son began to hit Hinton, but he pushed the boy away. The report states that the boy continued to hit him until he stopped the attack.

It wasn't known early Tuesday whether Hinton has an attorney who could be reached.
