OPELOUSAS, La. (AP) — Work is ahead of schedule on a new headquarters building for the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff Bobby Guidroz says the department should be working from the new building in early 2015.

The Daily World reports the Sheriff's Office bought the former Acadiana Prep School site near the intersection of U.S. Highway 190 and Interstate 49 last year.

The former school is being reconfigured into a 28,000-square-foot office complex that will centralize the department's operations.

The operations are scattered now throughout Opelousas and St. Landry Parish.
