St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz said the officer killed in the shooting incident in Sunset Wednesday was officer Henry Nelson. Nelson was a 12 year veteran of the Sunset Police Department and had run for Police Chief just last year. Condolences poured in on Officer Nelson's personal Facebook account.

The suspect has been identified as Harrison Lee Wiley Jr. of Arnaudville.

There were multiple other injuries in the incident which authorities say began as a domestic disturbance on St. Anne Street. Two women, who are the sisters of Grand Coteau Mayor Shaterral Johnson, were stabbed at that location. Mayor Johnson said in a statement that her sister 41-year-old Shameka Johnson was killed in the attack. Multiple others were injured in the attack. At least two of them were air-lifted to nearby hospitals.

KATC is reporting that two other people injured were Courtney Jolivette, the suspect's girlfriend, and Surlay Johnson.

Harrison Wiley fled the original scene. The getaway ended when he crashed into a convenience story on Napoleon Street and barricaded himself in the store office. Police were able to arrest Wiley hours later injured, but alive.

St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz said he would first be taken to a hospital in Lafayette and then booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.

Police report that the suspect has a known criminal history.

Sheriff Guidroz says the suspect will be charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and attempted-first degree murder of a police officer, depending on the condition of the veteran officer.

The latest on this story as it continues to develop.
