Shreveport Council Oks Dog Parks
Shreveport's City Council has voted 6-1 to allow off-leash dog parks in the city.
Dog park advocate Cynthia Keith told council members yesterday that the move would be considered progressive and that other cities have had such parks for years. The Times of Shreveport reports that private funding will cover the estimated $250,000 worth of equipment and improvements — such as a pavilion, landscaping and fencing — for the first park. It then would be donated to the city. Keith and others are working to raise money. Council Chairman Oliver Jenkins said he expects the project to be a model public-private partnership between the city and dog lovers.
