Simmersport Man Steals Ambulance, Leads Police On Chase

OPELOUSAS, La. (KPEL) -- A 25-year-old man is waiting to be booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail after authorities said he stole an ambulance and led them on a chase.

Opelousas Police reportedly told KATC TV-3 that Michael Mayeaux of Simmersport allegedly stole the ambulance from Opelousas General Hospital and drove off down U.S. 190.

Police followed onto La. 105 toward Melville, where he continued into Avoyelles Parish, the television station reported. Mayeaux stopped in Simmersport, where he was arrested and booked into jail.

Mayeaux is now awaiting extradition to St. Landry Parish from Avoyelles Parish.
