Six Flags New Orleans opened in 200 as "Jazzland." It was operated by Alfa Smartparks (Now Palace Entertainment). In 2002, Six Flags took over in 2002, and made upgrades to the park, renaming it Six Flags New Orleans in 2003. It was closed as Hurricane Katrina approached in 2005. The park has never reopened, and Six Flags negotiated with the city to terminate its 75 year lease from 2006-2009 . The park is now the property of the city of New Orleans, and sits abandoned.
