MINDEN, La. (AP) — The Minden Fire Department is marking fire prevention week by giving away smoke detectors to local residents.

Assistant Fire chief Tommy John Hughes tells the Minden Press-Herald the detectors were purchased using a $3,500 grant from Conoco Phillips.

The 350 detectors were earmarked for homeowners, not for landlords or renters, and must be installed by the homeowner.
