A "soft lockdown" was put in place on Breaux Bridge Elementary on Tuesday after police received reports of shots fired in a nearby neighborhood.

St. Martin Parish School Superintendent Lottie Beebe told our news partners at KATC the school's principal made this decision as a precaution. No threats were directed at the school, according to Superintendent Beebe, and students and faculty were not in danger.

Breaux Bridge Police are investigating what exactly happened, monitoring the area near the school. So far, no evidence of shots being fired has been found, according to Assistant Chief Terry Latiolais.
