A small group of Lafayette residents went to the Lafayette City Parish Council meeting last night to voice their opposition to a planned park being constructed by the Muslim Education Center of Acadiana.

The builders of the Muslim Education Center of Acadiana want to be allowed to build a chain-link fence around the building instead of the 6-foot tall sight-proof fence.  The variance was ultimately approved by the council.

Gary Mire was one of a few people who came to voice their opposition to the facility and park.  He commented that the people he has seen at the park construction site are "all foreigners".

Mire added that another reason he was suspicious about the project is because he feels no one was really given information about the project.
