Louisiana State Police Troop I Spokesman Brooks David spoke to KPEL today about the importance of always designating a driver, and driving safely.

David tells KPEL that it can only take one minute of distraction to cause a traffic crash that can change your life and someone else's life forever.

The trooper says one of the biggest things he wants to stress for this Memorial Day Weekend is to remind anyone planning to have anything to drink to designate a sober driver.

And by a sober driver, David says be sure to designate a driver that has had nothing at all to drink.

Last memorial day weekend there were six fatalities in the Troop I area.

David says designating a driver, not driving aggressively and being sure not to let yourself become distracted are all aspects of being a good driver, and you should do these things all year long.
